PRISPA hits Romenvirotec

We never miss any green event, and we certainly did not miss Romenvirotec, and event we took part in with the help of  Romexpo , one of our newest supporters. Apart from the events we craft ourselves, such as the Clay Experiment Weekend (you will very soon find out about it), green fairs are out favorites; you get to talk to a lot a of people very personally about your project, about prices, about innovations and advances in technology…well, about anything, really.

We talked about our favorite subject. PRISPA.

PRISPA House

The PRISPA house is the Romanian team’s project for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 competition, the world’s most important student/university competition that promotes the use of solar energy. The biggest challenge we have to face is that the project we propose must be realized by a team of students with their own force and resources. The house must be assembled and be totally functional in maximum 10 days.

PRISPA at Contempora 2, Bucharest

28th of November 2011 – 28th of January 2012

Contempora is an exhibition space which is dedicated to young artists in various creative fields, promoting young Romanian art being its main goal. We participated in their second edition, held from the 29th of November 2011 until the 28th of January 2012, at Sala Palatului, Bucharest.

We brought explanatory boards so the public better understands our project and also showed some pieces of furniture that were made according to PRISPA’s concept. Therefore, our installation featured a traditional wooden trunk and a hand-made lighting object that represents our three dimensional logo.

Carolling with PRISPA

For Christmas, the PRISPA team wanted to continue the carolling tradition which still makes traditional rural areas, and not only, vibrate during the winter holidays.

In this spirit, we wanted to wish some of our institutional partnersa “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”. Therefore, some of our team members made a musical visit to the “Ion Mincu” University
of Architecture and Urbanism and the Constructions and Technical University Bucharest.

We also visited Mr. Șerban Sturdza, one of our supporters and supervisers. Moreover, we thought we should even carol people we don’t know, so we actually went from door to door and spread the spirit.

DULGHER® Conference

On 9th December 2011, PRISPA took part in the 3rd edition of the DULGHER® Conference which took place in Brașov. The invitation came from Mr. Michael Holdreich, general manager of Euro-Hold Company and the organizer of the past two editions of this conference.

During the conference, the latest technologies and building materials for the timber based buildings were presented. The audience contained the sparkling selection of renderers, engineers and architects whose area of work and expertise is the wood industry.A number of Romanian companies that produce prefabricated wooden houses were also represented there.

On behalf of PRISPA team, Marius Șoflete (Structural Engineer), Adrian Pop (Fundraising Coordinator), Octavian Timu (Health and Safety Officer), Cătălin Caraza (Construction Manager), Dumitru Moldoveanu (Site Operations Coordinator) and Ioana Prodan (Student Architect) were present there.

Taking into account the audience of the conference, our presentation brought under public scrutiny the technical solutions for the wood based structure of our house. After the presentation, there was a 30 minute session of discussions about our proposal for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 competition. There were many questions concerning the transport of the house and the panels joining method, as well as about the fire protection of the wood elements. In addition, the audience showed great interest in the insulation layer and the ways of natural wood treatment we use. Needless to say, we got a lot of good and useful feed-back.

During the coffee break we had the chance to interact with the participants. We exchanged contacts and opinions and we shared ideas and solutions about low energy consumption houses. The people love our enthusiasm about the project and they are willing to support us as well as they can.

We left Brașov with a good feeling that we are getting even closer to building our house.

PRISPA at “Ne Vedem Joi”, Cluj, 24th of Nov 2011

It was high time for PRISPA to encourage other fellow students to participate at the next edition of SDE, because our project is not only an interesting one, but it’s also a platform for promoting Romania. Hence, continuity is an issue and we actually want to make sure that there will be other teams, not only from Bucharest, that will try the experience.

At NVJ (“See you on Thursday”, weekly conferences organised by student architects in Cluj), we introduced our colleagues to the SDE project and their requirements, made a quick review of our house design and then presented the team, focusing on the multidisciplinary aspects and our day-to-day activity with PRISPA. We also gave them an insight into the challenges we had to face in time and other more that we saw coming.

Students and young teachers at the Architecture Faculty in Cluj had a positive response to the whole concept of Solar Decathlon and we are pround to say that we might just have layered the basis of a new team, Cluj-Napoca-based, that will probably make us proud in the 2014 edition.
